VST Plug-in News

Grizzly v1.1b / Chimera v1.1 - SE 1.160

Chimera and Grizzly have been updated using the latest available version of SynthEdit 1.1. Please report any bugs in the comments area.

Grizzly:
No changes were made apart from upgrading to the latest version.
Grizzly v1.1b SE1.160

Chimera:
Samplerate bug fixed (48/96kHz tuning)
Chimera v1.1 SE1.160

Edit:
The first version uploaded had a problem with the samplerate fix, only 44.1 and 48kHz were the same pitch. Now 88.2 and 96kHz have also been adjusted to work properly.

Chimera

Majken's Chimera

Chimera is a noise driven synth focusing on pads and haunting leads. Three noisegenerators are connected through pitchcontrolled resonant bandpass filters. The result is an angelic and smooth synth.

NEW MULTICORE VERSION:
Chimera v1.1-SE1.160 (PC / VST 3.0 MB)

OLDER VERSIONS:
Chimera v1.1-beta1 (PC / VST 2.3 MB)
Chimera v1.0 (PC / VST 2.4 MB)

COMMENTS:
"Now here's a little cracker and it's freeware too. It uses white noise to generate sounds, passing it through bandpass filters to create pads, atmospheres, organs and percussive sounds. Novel, cool and a kind of 'sci-fi synth' if you like. It's getting some great feedback and, best of all, it's free as a bird."
Future Music - June 2006

VERSION INFO:
Version 1.0 Fix2: Samplerate controls pitch to fix tuning errors, pitchbend is one seminote by default.
Version 1.0 Fix1: Pitch was adjusted soon after the first release (Thanks Spuddle!)
Version 1.0: First release

PRESETS:
[mjk] Majken - [d66] Dazza66 - [snk] Sinkmusic - [ejr] John Robinson - [drl] DrLoop

THANKS!

I'm happy to hear that you like it! It's a synthesis method I had been playing around with for a couple of years before creating Chimera. The new version should be alot more stable and perform better than the older versions.

Much luv for Chimera here. It has a character that is vastly lacking in the bazillion VA clones out there. I used it pretty heavily on our last album, and it's pretty blatant in the song Her:

Yep, that would be The Era of Chimes patch... :D

Cheers, glad you're updating for multicore!

Hey is it me or does the latest version play the wrong note when used at 96khz? (and I don't mean an octave higher or lower, it plays a completely different note)

48khz sounds wrong too. Only 44.2khz and 88.4khz sound correct and can be played along other synths.

I'm guessing samplerate control got messed up during development at some point.

1.1-beta1 sounded correct (the pitch was fine for all samplerates)

Thank you for reporting this! I never use anything else than 44.1kHz myself, but a couple of users reported this problem when Chimera was first released. I published a fix back then that solved the problem. It's likely that the fix doesn't work in SynthEdit v1.1. I'll look into it!

Just wanted to say that I solved the problem with 48/96 kHz samplerates today. But I ran into another little issue. Will upload a new version once I've solved it.

Will this still be fixed? I badly need to be able to change the samplerate of one of my projects which uses this synth.

All newer versions of SynthEdit that I've tried have had a problem with voice allocation. It's gotten better but Chimera still suffers from clicks and pops now and then. I'll see if I can find an older beta and compile using that. There are also a couple of new betas that have not yet had time to test. Sorry about the delay to the samplerate fix!

This synth is one of the greatest things that's ever happened to the computer music scene. The presets just by themselves are inspiring and you can easily have a song grow out of your head just by looking over them. When put into music they add an atmosphere you would never achieve with any other VST, free or commercial. The sound of Chimera has become a staple of my music to such a degree that it would be hard for me to record music without a VST host nearby. Thank you for this marvelous digital creation.

I love this synth. BUT, since my old computer is gone and I now have a MAC, would there happen to be a MAC version out there?

I'm sorry, but as this plug-in was made using SynthEdit it's not possible for me to make a Mac version.
