Yes, Grizzly is completely free of charge - just like the other plug-ins you'll find on this page. The samples were partially made by me, either sampling household items or sampling software instruments with permission. The other half of the samples were made by Steve (blaster78 at KVR Audio).

To my knowledge all samples are royalty-free. So yes, you can just Grizzly in commercial productions. Lookout for the updated multicore version of Grizzly that loads faster, is more stable and won't crash when running multiple instances on a multicore CPU. The new version is due to be released when the final bugs have been fixed.

I like the program layout. Myself and others are in search of a simple software drum sampler for use with a external pad controller (MPD24) and a VST host (ACID 6.0). I hope it will include an audition feature and maybe capabilities of importing various file types (ie: Acidized wav files...do you see a pattern developing?). I will be keeping a watchful eye on this programs development. Keep up the good work!

I love Grizzly! Every musician I have shown it to loves it. I wrote my own drum plugin in synthedit (http://17hex.net/arachnid) and stopped working on it when I found Grizzly. I use it in Reaper, and the one thing that this (and all synthedit plugins) is missing is drag and drop support for samples. I have posted in the Reaper forum about possibly having a "copy sample path" option in the Media Explorer, which would greatly simplify working with Grizzly. I'll update here if/when that happens.
Anyway, great work!

Is there anyway to enlarge the VST/text size? I can barely read anything on my monitor (HD aspect ratio).

The font I made for Grizzly is rather small, but it should be readable. If you didn't use the installer or the installer didn't work properly it will default to using Arial at 8px which is completely unreadable.

Look at the screenshot above and compare, if it looks different from what it does on your machine you likely do not have the font installed. Check your Windows/Font directory for a Grizzly font, you might have to press F5 and refresh to see it. If you can't find a font, try running the installer again.

Thanks. I re-installed Grizzly and the text that was unreadable (text under modulators and the sample path text) is now bigger. It is still very small for my aspect ratio, but usable. However I suppose that there's no way to change which font is used..Thanks again great plugin!

Did you try refreshing the font folder by pressing F5? Fonts are somewhat of a mystery and it turns out it's a hassle to make an installer that works on every machine. Refreshing the font folder will sometimes install the font since the actual file is there but it's not registered as a font in the system.

I'm on Win7 and the install exe just can't add Grizzly font to windows/font directory. When I reinstall it it says "Grizzly font already installed" but when i look for it in Font directory, there's no such font. Can I have the font to install it manually? Thanks!

Thank you for publishing a free plugin like this. That's great. But I'm having some issues while running under FL Studio 8. It seems to be dropping notes after I begin automating. Any idea why this might be?

Thanks,
- Farley

Hi, downloaded Grizzly a few days ago and am having lots of fun with it. One problem I'm having is that the text/font used in the sample location text field, effects drop-down list, etc. are VERY tiny, so small I can barely read it... I'm using Reaper 3.0 on a Vista machine, is it my environment that's causing that?

Hi, am, sorry for the stupid question, but I have never used a drum machine before... Am, how do I actually start this thing? Installed both 1.0 and 1.1 beta versions, but all I got is a bunch of wave files and a single DLL file :s Read the manual, but there is nothing about this :s

Would you be so kind to give me a hand in this?

Thanks a lot

Sure thing, you need a host to run the plug-in. I'd try the demos of Reaper or FL Studio if I were you. Once you've got the host up and running, look for an option to load a vst-instrument, which is what Grizzly is. Once you've got Grizzly up and running you can load the wave samples on the eight drumpads and use the built in effects to change the sounds.

I have some advice to the creator of this wonderful plugin. If u add something like the "+" or "up" and "-" or "down" buttons whose functions would be browsing the sounds (samples) which are located in the same folder, it would be incredibly no-mistake plugin! Please, think about that, I miss it

I'd also like to add, when you go through your folder and click the file before importing it, could we get a sound preview? I have like fifty different kicks for example and I pick the tone based on the comp at the time so this would make it much faster for me to write.

I'm sorry to say that this is currently not possible to do in SynthEdit. If an when the feature is added or available through a third party module I'll add it straight away. It's something I'd really like myself.

Great Vst. I just wish it had at least 4 more sample slots playable by keyboard. Then I wouldn't have to run two grizzlys.I also like "fidos" advice, it's a good idea.

I need a little help...for some reason when i try to do more complicated drumbeats, or more then one pad at a time, the samples then do block out one another resulting in completely unread samples. As far as i know my Cpu is not clipping so i dont understand why its happening or how to fix it

please help

Perhaps its a polyphony thing. I'd check that if I were you. If like it is a 6 poly then a trick around this is to set the note off like 125th early of late. No one can tell trust me, I've gotten away with it on DnB. X^D This is a free plug in so it is understandable.

For the next build, more tracks and polyphony please! We promise to tell all our friends :-P

I've had some problems with the original v1.0 of Grizzly. I think I've resolved voice stealing issues in the v1.1 beta, but I'm not sure. Would be great to hear how the new build I released today works.

Oh and to explain how Grizzly works, each pad is monophonic, but the voice stealing should be smooth with no clicks. Meaning no matter how fast you retrig notes there shouldn't be any notes dropped - If everything works like it was supposed to that is

Hi I'm having the same problem as Patrick. A lot of times some samples block each other out. Some times it's seems to only work at random points of the song. I'm sort of new to VSTs so I could be doing something wrong, but this is a really new computer so I doubt there's any trouble with my hardware. Help would be great!

i love this vst! i love freeware. Cuz its free and legal. Some times it sucks, but this does not! this comes with great sets. Some are a little wierd, but if you look around you'll find the right one that fits your style. Thanks Majken.se!

I've just installed Grizz, and I have some requests and ideas for versions to come..

1: The font is generally to small, some texts are impossible to read
2: Drag and drop wav's from drop media explore to pads do not work (Reaper)
3: No sound preview in open file
4: More outputs, 8 stereo would be great.
5: A possibility to select the next and prev wav file from the selected one, on the pad.
6: I would love if it had more pads but anyways, it's very cool.

Hope you'll take the ideas well, and hope to see the changes soon if so, you would surely donate/buy it.

Best wishes

Hi! what is the chance that You'll add compressor to the fx section? That would just make Grizzly ultimate perfect drumsampler

Hello,

I love grizzly and have used it for years in my songs.
i've just moved over to mac with reaper.

Sorry if i've missed this from the former posts, but is there a mac version, or do you know of a very similar sample player that will work for mac? I'm sure gonna miss it if i can't get it for mac!!

I'm sorry to say that Grizzly will most likely never be ported to Mac. I don't know of any free alternatives for Mac either. I'd look at a second hand Native Instruments Battery if I were you. It will likely cost you a few bucks but it's a great sample player with built in effects and an excellent included sample library.

Hi!

Grizzly rocks! I'm using it with a puredata patch I've written for an interactive sound installation.

One problem: After an hour or so, Grizzly sometimes start to make only short blips instead of the full sounds and a while later no sound at all! The vst host's level meter still shows sound output, there's still midi being received. I can select a standard preset and click on the little 'play' buttons next to the samples but still no sound. I can reload Grizzly plugin on the vst host but still no sound. I can reload any other plugin on the host...still no sound. I've tried 'VSTHost' and 'Minihost'. Also switched to different sound drivers on 'VSTHost'. Only thing that works is to restart the host! I've also had an occasional system crash. Using Windows XP SP2.

When this problem occurs, I can still get audio output from Windows, e.g. playing mp3's.

Still busy troubleshooting, might very well not be Grizzly related, but testing takes time. Any ideas?
